OBSERVATION METHOD
In this method, a researcher goes direct to the field and observe by using his/ her eyes, touch and sometimes ask the questions about the phenomena that observe and then record what is seen in the field during conducting research.This method is important because some phenomena can only be appreciated when there are actually witnessed.
There are two types of Observation method;

Participant observation, this method sometimes is referred as direct observation in this method of data collection the researcher becomes part and parcel of people under study.

Non-participant observations, this is a method in which a research observes actions, behaviors, and activities of the researched without participating in the life of those people. The researcher observes all activities and actions done by the researcher but without being seen by the participants.

THE MERITS OF OBSERVATION
Observation method provide a research with a number of merits
A researcher gets to know the ideas of the group observing or studying.
The data are recorded as they occur or observed.
Is the first-hand information means that it is easily be collected
The method is reliable since data are obtained at first hand.

DEMERITS OF OBSERVATION

It is costly in terms of time and money and sometimes may involve risk taking especially when you observing people who are doing something illegal.

Subjectivity may easily be done hence leading to incorrect information.

Non-participant observation does not capture the natural context of the social life of the group he /she is studying.

Methodologically sometimes is a problem because one cannot get full information to be observed such as matters concerning sexuality.

One may be biased and may not record the information correctly.

It is subjective because data are based on personal observation.

Some geographical phenomena may not be easily obtained
