TOURISM
Tourism is the movement of people to the different place for the interest of leisure, business or education.
A person who travels to different places for leisure, business or education is called a Tourist.
Tourism can be categorized into two types; Domestic and International tourism.
Domestic Tourism
It is the movement of people to different places for leisure, business or education within the country, for example from Mtwara to Mwanza for tourism activities.
International Tourism
It is the movement of people from their home country to another country for leisure, education, and business, for example from Tanzania to South Africa, or from the USA to Tanzania.
 
Factors influencing the development of Tourism activities in the world
  • Tourism attractions, for example, pleasant climate, historical sites, and different culture.
  • Good transport and communication infrastructure, eg Railways, airways and roads.
  • Accommodations facilities such as hotels, motels, lodges, and guesthouses.
  • Peace and political stability
  • Marketing
  • Well trained manpower.
 
Importance of Tourism in the World
  • It is the source of employment
  • It is the source of foreign exchange
  • Improvement of infrastructures
  • Promoting the international relations
  • It is the source of government revenue
  • Conservation of wildlife and protection of historical sites

  • It led to significant creation of job opportunities
  • Development of infrastructure in countries that have tourism attractions
  • Tourism leads to diversifications of economies
  • It makes people together irrespective of their color, religion or nationalism
  • Tourism activities reduce the migration from rural to urban areas, people can migrate to the tourism attractions areas.
  • Tourism ensures conservation and protection of wildlife from different cultural practices.

Tourism in Switzerland
Switzerland is located in the Central Europe, East of the France and North of Italy. the total area is 41290 square Km, Its terrain is mountainous with central plateaus of rolling hills, plains, and large lakes.
It has temperature climate consisting of cold snow in winter and warm humid in summer
During summer the area most visited are Swiss plateaus of Lausanne, Geneva, Bern, Zurich and lake shores

Tourism in Namibia
Namibia is located in Southern Africa bordering the Atlantic Ocean to the west, South Africa to the South, Botswana to the East and Angola to the North.
Namibia has an area of 825418 square Km with terrain that is mostly highly plateauing with Namibia desert along the coast and the Kalahari Desert in the East.
Its climatic is desert which is hot and dry with sparse and rainfall.
Major tourist attractions in Namibia are; the cape cross, Seal reserve, The Caprin Game Park, Dean Viljoen Park, Namibia Park, Fish River, Canyon, Cross- Berman, hot spring resort.

Tourism in Tanzania
Tanzania is located in the Eastern part of Africa bordered by The Indian Ocean at the East, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique at the South, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo at the West and Uganda and Kenya at the North part.
Tanzania has several tourist attractions such as;
  • At the Northern part of Tanzania, there are different tourist attractions such as  Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro conservation area, Arusha National Park, Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro and Lake Manyara National Park.
 
  • At the Southern part of Tanzania, there are Coastal beaches with white sands, Ancient Towns such as Kilwa and Bagamoyo, Mikumi National Park, Selous Game reserve and Mafia Island.
 
 
  • Other areas include Lake Rukwa, Katavi and Gombe National Parks, Lake Tanganyika, and Lake Victoria
