Photosynthesis is acombination of two words photo and synthesis.
Photo is a greek word which means light
and
Synthesis means formation or production.
There fore photosynthesis is a process by which green plants manufacture their own food in the presence of sun light energy, water and carbon dioxide,
Photosynthesis occurs only in the green parts of a plant that mainly leaves and in the stems of some plants which have the green light sensitive pigment, Chlorophyll
the equation below shows the Reaction of Photosyntesis
The chemical Reaction of Photosynthesis
during the reaction Carbon Dioxide and Water are Converted into Glucose and Oxygen. The Reaction requires light energy which is absorbed by Green substance which is called Chlorophyll
Photosynthesis takes place in the leaf Cells that contain Chloroplast which are tiny object containing Chlorophyll
Plants absorb water through their roots, and carbon dioxide through their leaves.
Some glucose is used for respiration, while some is converted into insoluble starch for storage. The stored starch can later be turned back into glucose and used in respiration. Oxygen is released as a by- product of photosynthesis.
