1. (a) Define the following types of data as used in Statistics.

    (b) Summarize the significance of studying statistics in geography.

                                          MAP READING AND INTERPRETATION
4. (a) Define topographical maps and outline its uses.
    (b) List down four ways of fixing position on topographical maps.
5. Carefully study the printed map extract of Kigoma Sheet 92/3 then answer the following questions.
    (a) (i) Give the six figures reference for the position of Livingstone’s Memorial south of Ujiji town.
         (ii) What socio-economic activities are demarcated by grid references 937616,976627,947598?
    (b) (i) Measure the total length of the railway in kilometers.
         (ii) Give the bearing and compass direction of the Nondwa Hill (G.R 902633) from Muloli         
              Hill (G.R 923618).
    © Calculate the area of Lake Tanganyika in sq. kilometers south of northing 570 by grid method.
    (d) (i) Make a relief section from Gr. Ref. 910580 to 951625 and determine its Vertical
              Exaggeration (V.E)
         (ii) Calculate the gradient from the top of Kamara Hill (G.R 918587) to the contour of
               820 meters (G.R 946574)
      (e) Describe the (i) settlement (ii) drainage pattern in the mapped area.
